On the joint call of ten trade unions, a nationwide industrial strike was observed on Thursday, with protests held in several parts of the country. In Asansol, left-wing trade union organisations staged a demonstration from the morning in front of the State Bank of India office in the BNR area as part of the broader movement.
Protesters put up banners supporting their demands and raised slogans outside the bank premises. The demonstration remained focused on highlighting the objectives of the nationwide strike, which the unions said was aimed at pressing for workers’ rights and related issues.
Speaking on the occasion, left leader Partha Mukherjee said the programme in Asansol was part of the nationwide call given by ten trade unions. He alleged that banners put up by the protesters were torn down and claimed that the manner in which the police were functioning in favour of the TMC and BJP was condemnable.
