Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
The full launch of the Metro service connecting New Garia to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport is set to be delayed further, with the project now expected to be completed only by mid-2028. The delay has been attributed to the lack of traffic clearance in the Chingrighata area.
Kolkata Metro General Manager Subhranshu Shekhar Mishra shared the update on Monday, following the Railway Minister’s budget press conference. He said the project was originally targeted for completion by mid-2027 but has faced hurdles over the past three months.
According to Mishra, construction work at Chingrighata has remained stalled due to the absence of necessary approvals from the traffic department. This has significantly slowed down progress on a key stretch of the corridor.
He added that even if traffic clearance is granted immediately, it would still take until mid-2028 to complete the entire New Garia–airport Metro project and make it fully operational.
