Traffic curbs around Eden Gardens for IPL 2025 matches | Check routes & restrictions

Kolkata Police has issued a detailed traffic notification outlining extensive restrictions and diversions for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 matches at Eden Gardens. The restrictions will be in effect on March 22, April 3, April 6, April 21, April 26, May 4, May 7, May 23, and May 25 to manage vehicular movement and ensure public convenience. The measures will include the suspension of goods vehicle movement, road closures, and diversions across key areas in central Kolkata.

According to the notification issued by Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar Verma, movement of all types of goods vehicles will be temporarily restricted or diverted around Eden Gardens and the Maidan area from 4 PM to 1 AM on most match days. On April 6 and May 4, the restriction will be imposed from 12 PM to 9 PM. However, goods vehicles bound for Posta Market via Howrah along St. Georges Gate Road and Strand Road will be permitted but will not be allowed to load, unload, or park on these roads during the restricted hours.

Multiple roads will be closed to vehicular traffic during the restricted hours, including Kshudiram Bose Road (Auckland Road), North Brooke Avenue, and Gostha Pal Sarani (Kingsway). Parking will be prohibited on major routes such as Kingsway, Rani Rashmoni Avenue, Old Court House Street, Indira Gandhi Sarani (Red Road), Guru Nanak Sarani (Mayo Road), and Dufferin Road. High Court-bound vehicles will be allowed to use Esplanade Row West instead of Auckland Road and North Brooke Avenue as per the discretion of traffic police on duty.

Buses and minibuses from South Kolkata heading toward BBD Bag will be diverted via Rani Rashmoni Avenue, Netaji Statue, Government Place East, and Old Court House Street. Vehicles from North and East Kolkata will be rerouted through Central Avenue, Ganesh Chandra Avenue, and Mangoe Lane. Similarly, buses traveling westward will take alternative routes through S.N. Banerjee Road and Government Place East. Traffic movement from South Kolkata towards BBD Bag will be redirected through AJC Bose Road, St. Georges Gate Road, and Strand Road.

Howrah-bound traffic will also be affected, with buses and minibuses from South and South West Kolkata being diverted via Hastings Crossing, St. Georges Gate Road, and Strand Road. Vehicles from Alipore Road and Belvedere Road will take alternative routes via AJC Bose Road and AJC Bose Road Ramp. No parking zones will be strictly enforced around Eden Gardens, with taxis, private buses, and other commercial vehicles prohibited from parking in the vicinity. Temporary bus stands will be relocated to Kiran Shankar Roy Road and Esplanade Row East.

The notification states that vehicular traffic may be diverted from additional arterial and feeder roads as required, based on real-time assessments by traffic police. The restrictions will be enforced alongside existing traffic regulations on match days, ensuring the smooth movement of vehicles and the safety of commuters.
