Vandalism in Howrah over controversial painting during Durga Puja; 30 arrested
A traffic sergeant was severely injured during an attack while conducting naka checking on Vishwakarma Puja night in the Tangra region of Kolkata. The incident occurred on Tuesday night near China Town and Christopher Road in the Tangra area.
Park Circus Traffic Guard officers were performing their routine night checking when a group of 20 to 30 miscreants launched a sudden attack on the police team. Among those injured was traffic sergeant Kautuk Ghosh, who suffered serious injuries to his neck, leg, and head.
A civic volunteer and a constable were also beaten during the attack. The miscreants vandalized the police vehicle and reportedly set fires during the chaos. Ghosh and the injured personnel were rushed to Chittaranjan National Medical College for treatment.
Despite calling for backup from his guard and control, the duty sergeant, constables, and civic volunteers did not receive immediate assistance. The local police from Tapasiya police station are actively investigating the incident and reviewing CCTV footage to identify the attackers.
