A devastating fire broke out on Wednesday morning in the Dalit colony of Rampur Mani Panchayat, located in the Bariyarpur police station area of Muzaffarpur district, Bihar. The tragedy claimed the lives of five children and left dozens of families homeless. According to local reports, the fire started around 10 a.m., allegedly due to a short circuit in one of the houses. Within moments, the flames spread rapidly across the densely populated slum area, engulfing over 50 houses before any containment efforts could begin.
Among the deceased were three children from the family of Raju Paswan, a local resident. The loss has sent shockwaves through the village, with many still in disbelief over the magnitude of the disaster. In total, five children were confirmed dead by authorities. Additionally, reports suggest that 15 individuals are currently missing, heightening concerns among already distraught families.
As soon as the incident was reported, multiple fire brigade teams rushed to the spot and began efforts to control the blaze. After several hours of struggle, firefighters managed to bring the fire under control, though not before significant damage had been done. Police teams also arrived at the scene and began preliminary investigations. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) for post-mortem examinations. Authorities are now coordinating relief operations for the displaced families.
