Train services disrupted on Hasnabad-Sealdah route after track blockade by locals

Train services on the Hasnabad-Sealdah route were disrupted for nearly 90 minutes on Monday morning after residents blocked tracks at Bhasila station in North 24 Parganas. The blockade began around 7:30 am, with locals demanding urgent repair of the damaged road leading to the station, which they claim becomes hazardous during rainfall.

Protesters stated that the poor road conditions have been repeatedly reported to both district administration and railway officials, but no action was taken. As a result, they decided to stage a sit-in protest on the railway track. Train services on the route came to a complete halt, leaving multiple local trains stranded and causing significant delays for commuters heading to work.

Railway officials arrived on the spot around 7:00 am and held discussions with the agitating residents. After assurances were given for swift repairs and intervention, the protesters withdrew the blockade. Train movement resumed gradually, but all services continued to run behind schedule. Railway authorities also reduced train speeds on the affected route as a precaution.

In addition to the disruption on the suburban rail network, continuous rain throughout the night led to waterlogging in several parts of Kolkata. Metro services between Chandni Chowk and Central stations were partially suspended after water accumulated on the tracks. Passengers were advised to use alternative routes. The metro authority confirmed that drainage operations are in progress.

Road traffic in multiple parts of the city was affected due to water accumulation. Several low-lying areas reported slow vehicle movement and congestion during peak morning hours. No timeline has yet been provided by officials on when full metro operations will resume or when the road and track conditions in Bhasila will be addressed.
