Train services on the busy Howrah–Bardhaman railway line were disrupted for nearly one and a half hours on Sunday, causing inconvenience to passengers across several stations in Hooghly district. The disruption occurred in the morning and affected both suburban and long-distance train movement on the route.
According to railway sources, the problem began after a power failure in the overhead electrical system between Hooghly and Bandel stations. The fault in the overhead equipment interrupted the supply of current to the railway line, forcing trains on the route to halt temporarily. As a result, services on several sections including the Howrah–Bardhaman, Howrah–Katwa and Bandel–Naihati routes were affected. Multiple local trains and some long-distance trains remained stranded at stations or between stations, leaving passengers waiting for services to resume.
Railway officials said technical teams worked to repair the fault in the overhead system. After the necessary repairs were completed, train movement gradually returned to normal and services resumed across the affected routes.
