A horrific accident unfolded inside the premises of Howrah Municipal Corporation this morning, claiming the lives of two temporary workers, Umesh Mahato and Noor Mohammad, when a large tree suddenly fell. The tragic incident occurred around 7 AM, sending shockwaves through the Municipal Corporation and sparking immediate concern among staff and officials.
The victims, identified as temporary workers of the Howrah Municipal Corporation, were reportedly near the office of the Chief Municipal Administrator when an eucalyptus tree unexpectedly collapsed. Umesh Mahato, a health department worker, and Noor Mohammad, a security guard, were caught directly beneath the falling tree. Both are believed to have died instantly at the scene.
Upon receiving the information, police from Howrah Police Station quickly arrived at the site, followed by senior Municipal Corporation officials. The two bodies were promptly recovered, and the area was secured. The sudden nature of the accident has led to a commotion, with many questioning the safety of the premises, especially concerning old or decaying trees.
Workers from the Disaster Management Department were immediately deployed to the scene and have commenced the challenging task of removing the massive tree.
