In an unprecedented incident in Nagarakata, Jalpaiguri district, a tree has been sentenced to a 100-year imprisonment and restrained with chains and ropes. Sheikh Ziaur Rahman, the individual behind this unique punishment, claims that the large tree has been harming smaller trees in its vicinity as it continues to grow.
Drawing parallels with human accountability for crimes, Rahman argues that if a person is punished for causing harm, the same principle should apply to the tree, which he accuses of "arborcide."
