Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has officially announced its new legislative leadership for the West Bengal Assembly following its defeat in the 2026 elections. Senior party veteran Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, who won the Ballygunge seat by a margin of over 61,000 votes, has been elected as the Leader of the Opposition (LoP). Chattopadhyay, a seasoned politician with decades of experience, will now spearhead the party's legislative strategy against the newly formed BJP government.
In a move to strengthen its bench in the Assembly, the TMC also appointed Asima Patra and Nayna Bandyopadhyay as Deputy Leaders of the Opposition. Bandyopadhyay successfully retained her Chowrangee seat in the recent polls, cementing her position as a key voice for the party in Kolkata.
Additionally, senior leader Firhad Hakim has been designated as the Chief Whip, ensuring a coordinated and disciplined opposition front during house proceedings.
