Trinamool Congress MLA Nasiruddin Ahmed passed away late Saturday night after suffering a heart attack. The 70-year-old leader was rushed to the hospital following a sudden deterioration in his health but succumbed during treatment. His death has left the political community in shock, with many expressing deep condolences.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her grief over the passing of the Kaliganj MLA. In a heartfelt message on her official X handle on Sunday morning, Banerjee wrote, "I am saddened by the sudden demise of my colleague Nasiruddin Ahmed, MLA from Nadia. He was an experienced public worker and political representative as well as our trusted colleague. He was a lawyer and a very good social worker, and I really respected him. My condolences to his family, friends, and followers."
Nasiruddin Ahmed, known as 'Lal' in political circles, had a long-standing career in West Bengal politics. He first became a Trinamool Congress MLA in 2011 when the party saw a significant shift in state politics. However, in the 2016 assembly elections, he lost his seat to Congress-CPI(M) alliance candidate Sheikh Hasanuzzaman. Interestingly, Hasanuzzaman later joined the Trinamool Congress.
Despite the setback in 2016, Ahmed’s political journey did not end. In the 2021 assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress reinstated its faith in him by giving him a ticket once again. Ahmed emerged victorious and reclaimed his position as the MLA from Kaliganj, continuing to serve his constituency with dedication.
Ahmed was widely respected for his contributions as both a lawyer and a social worker. His commitment to public service and his approachable demeanor made him a beloved figure in his community. His sudden death has created a void in the political landscape of West Bengal.
