Court sends Councilor Mahesh Sharma to 6-day police custody in extortion case
The Trinamool Congress has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India regarding the Rajya Sabha nomination of BJP leader Rahul Sinha, alleging multiple irregularities in the documents submitted during the nomination process. According to the ruling party in West Bengal, the nomination papers of the BJP candidate contain several discrepancies, particularly in the affidavit submitted under Form 26, which requires candidates to disclose personal, financial and legal details.
In its complaint to the Commission, the party questioned how Sinha’s nomination was accepted despite what it described as “numerous errors and incomplete information.” Political observers note that the process of filing a nomination for the Rajya Sabha and becoming a Member of Parliament is generally straightforward, making such allegations unusual.
The Trinamool Congress has also raised the issue on social media, sharing a copy of the letter sent to the Election Commission from its official handle. In the post, the party alleged that the affidavit submitted by the BJP candidate contains concealed details, errors and incomplete disclosures.
The party has urged the Election Commission to examine the documents and take appropriate action if violations of nomination rules are found.
