Trinamool leader draws controversial comparison between Pulwama Attack and Doctors' Strike

As the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress faces heat over the handling of the rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, senior Trinamool leader Kunal Ghosh has stirred controversy with remarks comparing doctors’ strikes to military desertion in the aftermath of the 2019 Pulwama attack.

Addressing the ongoing nationwide protests by doctors demanding justice, Ghosh asked how they would respond if soldiers deserted the borders demanding action against those responsible for Pulwama. His comment came via a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he posed, "With a request to doctors to end their strike, I have a question. There has been no justice in the Pulwama case. So, if jawans desert the borders and start a 'we want justice' strike, how would they see it?"

The 2019 Pulwama attack claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel in Jammu and Kashmir, prompting a retaliatory airstrike by the Indian Air Force in Pakistan’s Balakot. The comparison has sparked debate amidst the sensitive backdrop of the doctors' protests over safety and justice in Kolkata.
