The Trinamool Congress (TMC) faced yet another severe organizational setback after Itahar MLA Mosharraf Hossain announced his resignation from his high-profile position as the State President of the party's minority cell. Hossain made the dramatic declaration during a swiftly called press conference at his private residence, right in the middle of the ongoing state assembly budget session. The unexpected move has ignited intense speculation and widespread discussion across both district-level and state-wide political circles.

During the press briefing, the Itahar legislator maintained that his sudden departure from the crucial party post was motivated strictly by pressing family and personal concerns. Hossain claimed that the heavy responsibilities of caring for his elderly mother, managing his own emerging medical issues, and overseeing urgent domestic obligations made it impossible to fulfill his leadership duties. He argued that there was no logical point in retaining a highly demanding executive title when he could no longer actively stand by his organizational responsibilities.

Despite citing personal reasons, Hossain dropped strong hints about a deeper political realignment that has put the party on high alert. The MLA openly admitted to being in regular contact with the rebel Trinamool faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee, who is currently recognized as the formal opposition leader by the Assembly Speaker. While Hossain refrained from directly confirming an imminent defection away from Mamata Banerjee’s camp, political analysts view his open communication with the rebel group as a clear sign of an impending shift in allegiance.

Adding fuel to the political fire, Hossain openly praised Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari when questioned by journalists about local development projects. He fondly recalled his past working relationship with Adhikari during their shared time in the undivided Trinamool Congress. The rebel legislator explicitly stated his keen interest in leveraging that personal rapport to actively participate in the state's future developmental initiatives, delivering a clear signal that he is preparing to align with the current ruling dispensation.
