NIA searches Saokat Molla’s home and party office, son questioned in Bhangar blast case
A dramatic accusation was leveled in the Lok Sabha on Thursday when Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anurag Thakur alleged that an opposition lawmaker from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) was openly smoking e-cigarettes inside the House. Thakur raised the accusation during the Question Hour, directly asking Speaker Om Birla if such items were permissible within the Parliament premises.
When Speaker Om Birla replied that e-cigarettes were certainly not allowed, Thakur intensified his complaint. He stated that a TMC MP, whom he deliberately did not name, had been "smoking e-cigarettes in the House for the past several days" despite the nationwide ban on the product. Thakur strongly urged the Speaker to intervene, saying, "E-cigarettes are banned across the country… yet you have allowed them in the House? Please investigate this immediately."
The accusation instantly triggered a brief but intense uproar, with several other BJP MPs standing up to complain and support Thakur’s claims, adding to the chaotic scenes often witnessed in Parliament. Speaker Om Birla, responding to the commotion, urged all House members to maintain parliamentary dignity and traditions. He assured the agitated members that if such a matter were brought to his attention and verified, he would certainly take firm action in accordance with the rules.
