Trinamool to bring motion against SIR on February 6 in Assembly

The Trinamool Congress has announced plans to bring a resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act on the 6th. Party leaders and the state government are actively preparing for the resolution, which is expected to generate intense debate inside the House. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has approached the Supreme Court challenging the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in the poll-bound state, reports said. The petition, filed on January 28, names the Election Commission of India and the chief electoral officer of West Bengal as respondents, following her earlier declaration to legally challenge the exercise.

The Bharatiya Janata Party once again stayed away from the all-party meeting called by Speaker Biman Banerjee ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly session. The absence drew attention as key legislative and political developments are scheduled in the days ahead.

Speaker Biman Banerjee informed that Governor C.V. Ananda Bose will deliver his address to the Assembly on the 5th of the month, during the session beginning on the 3rd. The state budget is also set to be presented on the same day, marking an important phase in the Assembly’s proceedings.
