Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
Speculation over a possible split within the Trinamool Congress intensified on Tuesday after expelled leader Ritabrata Banerjee arrived at the West Bengal Assembly carrying documents that are being described as politically significant. Political discussions have focused on reports that Banerjee is preparing to submit a letter linked to a group of party legislators amid growing uncertainty within the opposition camp.
According to information circulating in political circles, Banerjee is carrying a letter reportedly signed by 50 MLAs. The document is expected to be submitted to the Assembly Secretariat as Speaker Biman Banerjee is currently in New Delhi. The reported letter claims that the group represents the legitimate Trinamool Congress and has a claim over the party’s name and election symbol.
The development has fuelled discussions about internal divisions within the party following recent political setbacks. Reports indicate that the move is being viewed by some observers as an attempt to challenge the authority of the existing leadership and establish an alternative political grouping within the organisation.
The speculation gained further attention after State Minister Tapas Roy posted a message on social media referring to the party’s current situation and drawing comparisons with political developments in Maharashtra. The discussions come after a meeting called by Mamata Banerjee reportedly witnessed limited attendance from invited MLAs, leading to renewed debate over the strength and direction of the party’s legislative wing.
