A young food delivery biker lost his life in a horrific road accident late on Tuesday night in Kolkata's Baghajatin area. A speeding and reportedly reckless lorry struck the biker, dragging him for several metres before finally coming to a halt. The identity of the victim, a delivery executive on duty
Eyewitnesses recounted the terrifying incident, stating that the lorry was travelling at an "uncontrolled and dangerously high speed" from the Jadavpur direction towards Baghajatin. The fatal collision occurred at Baghajatin More when the lorry slammed into the victim's bike, which was approaching from the opposite direction. The force of the impact was so severe that the biker was dragged a considerable distance, leaving a trail of devastation.
Following the crash, locals immediately rushed to the scene to offer assistance and assess the situation. A large team from the Jadavpur Police Station arrived shortly thereafter, managing to secure the lorry and take its driver into custody. The swift response from the community and law enforcement brought some initial order to the chaotic scene.
However, the incident quickly triggered widespread outrage among Baghajatin residents. Many alleged that the police initially attempted to downplay the severity of the incident and even suggested a mutual settlement, hinting at an attempt to let the lorry driver go without formal charges. This perceived leniency ignited a strong wave of public anger.
Angry protests erupted at the accident site, with agitated locals blocking the road and vociferously demanding justice for the deceased biker. The residents’ unwavering stance and sustained pressure forced the authorities to take more decisive action. Bowing to public demand, the police subsequently arrested the lorry driver and initiated a formal investigation.
