Trump again claims he “brokered peace” between India and Pakistan, says 8 planes shot down

Former US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he personally brokered peace between India and Pakistan, this time revising his earlier statement to say eight fighter jets were shot down during the conflict. Speaking at the America Business Forum in Miami, Trump said the two nations “made peace” only after he threatened to cancel their trade deals.

Trump said he was negotiating trade agreements with both countries when reports of escalating tensions appeared. “Seven planes were shot down, and the eighth was badly wounded... I told them, no trade deals until peace,” he told the audience, adding that the next day, both sides agreed to stop hostilities.

India has repeatedly dismissed Trump’s claim, maintaining that the ceasefire was achieved on May 10 after Pakistan sought to end the offensive. Despite India’s denial, Trump has continued to repeat this version of events since May, claiming his mediation ended a “nuclear crisis” between the two countries.

The tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after India carried out Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror camps inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following the killing of 26 civilians in Pahalgam. The four-day hostilities ended after heavy cross-border firing and missile strikes, with Pakistan requesting a ceasefire.
