Arnold Dix, the president of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association in Geneva, spoke of the successful rescue operation, labeling it a "miracle" and emphasizing the remarkable coordination and skill displayed by the Indian engineers.
Dix, who had been stationed in Uttarkashi throughout the operation, expressed his commitment to visit the temple to fulfill his promise of gratitude. The expert highlighted the exceptional teamwork and efficiency that led to the safe evacuation of the 41 workers, thanking India's engineers and recognizing the success as a joyous moment.
The challenging operation faced setbacks due to the difficult Himalayan terrain, including the breakdown of a 25-tonne auger machine. However, manual drilling by rat-hole mining experts ultimately achieved the task. Dix's involvement in the rescue efforts earned him praise from various quarters, including a commendation from Australia's High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, who acknowledged Dix's crucial technical support on the ground.
