Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested Giribala Singh, mother-in-law of deceased Twisha Sharma, after hours of questioning in connection with allegations of dowry harassment and cruelty. The arrest came shortly after the Madhya Pradesh High Court rejected her anticipatory bail plea in the high-profile death case. Twisha Sharma, a former Miss Pune, actor, and MBA graduate from Noida, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bagmugalia, Bhopal, on May 12, barely five months after marrying lawyer Samarth Singh in December 2025. Following her death, her family accused her in-laws of dowry harassment and mental torture. The High Court took note of multiple ante-mortem injuries found on Twisha Sharma’s body, allegations of mental harassment, and the alleged non-cooperation of Giribala Singh during the investigation.
The High Court overturned the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh by a Bhopal sessions court on May 15. According to submissions placed before the court, WhatsApp chats and witness statements formed part of the material examined during the hearing. Advocate General Prashant Singh stated that the court had taken serious note of seven ante-mortem injuries found on the deceased’s body and allegations indicating sustained harassment. Giribala Singh has been booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to dowry death, cruelty by husband or relatives, and common intention, along with Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. Earlier this week, the Supreme Court directed the CBI to take over the investigation and conduct the probe without delay.
