Two accomplices of fake CBI officer arrested in ₹2.05 lakh fraud, brought to Cooch Behar

Cooch Behar Police arrested two more individuals linked to a fraud case where a man impersonated a CBI officer and duped a retired school teacher of ₹2.05 lakh. The accused, Barla Shekhar from Srikakulam and Sakala Mahesh from Visakhapatnam, were arrested in Andhra Pradesh on February 13 following a raid in Babujinagar. They were brought to Cooch Behar on Monday. The main accused, Pilla Nani, was arrested last month after police tracked the bank account where the victim transferred the money.

District Police Chief Dyutiman Bhattacharya stated, "After questioning Pilla Nani, our team raided Babujinagar and arrested two more individuals involved in the fraud." The case began when the retired teacher received a phone call from a person posing as a CBI officer, falsely claiming his name was linked to a money laundering case. The caller pressured him into transferring ₹2.05 lakh to a bank account, which he did out of fear. Following the complaint, police traced the bank account details and located Pilla Nani in Visakhapatnam, leading to his arrest.

Upon interrogation, he disclosed the involvement of two more associates. A team from the cybercrime branch was sent to Andhra Pradesh, where they arrested Shekhar and Mahesh. Police sources confirmed that all three accused have confessed to their role in the scam. WhatsApp chat records between the fraudsters and the victim were recovered, along with evidence of financial transactions. Authorities are investigating whether the group was involved in similar frauds in other states.
