Another KMC councillor, Biswajit Mondal arrested, after woman alleges molestation and threats
Kolkata Police’s Cyber Crime division arrested two individuals in connection with Case No. 109/24 dated 25.09.2024 under sections 66C/66D of the Information Technology Act, 2000 read with Sections 61(2), 318(4), 336(2), 336(3), 338, and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The two accused — Siddharth Doshi, son of Ramesh Doshi, and Shiva Kumar Sonkar, son of Naresh Kumar Sonkar — were apprehended from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata.
Following their detention, searches were conducted at their respective residences. Siddharth Doshi resides at Swatik Atulya Apartment, Flat 2D, 192A Harish Mukherjee Road under Kalighat Police Station. During the raid at his premises, police recovered two mobile phones, one laptop, five debit cards from different banks, and ₹4 lakh in cash. All items were seized under a proper seizure list.
Shiva Kumar Sonkar, originally from 22 Adi Banstala Gali, Barabazar, under Posta Police Station, currently resides at Laxmi Tower, Flat No. 3A, 542/A Rabindra Sarani under Shyampukur Police Station. During the search of his residence, two mobile phones were seized. Authorities confirmed that all recovered items have been documented.
According to official records, the arrests and seizures were made based on specific information regarding alleged cyber fraud activities. The case involves possible offenses related to identity theft, cheating by impersonation, and financial fraud. The legal proceedings are being carried out as per applicable sections under both the IT Act and BNS, 2023.
Both accused persons are scheduled to be produced before the Learned Court today Further investigation is ongoing, and technical analysis of the seized items is underway to assist in the case proceedings.
