According to police sources, the arrested suspect, Soumya Kanti Jana, allegedly murdered 80-year-old Subodh Sarkar over a financial dispute. Sarkar, residing in Sodepur, had reportedly lent Rs 7 lakh to Jana, who faced mounting pressure to repay the debt. This pressure allegedly led to Sarkar's murder, which was subsequently concealed by packing his body in a trolley bag and disposing of it in a secluded area in Newtown.
