Two brothers arrested after 10 houses burgled in single night in Maheshtala

Panic gripped the Ashuti Plaza area and adjoining Sarsuna locality under the Thakurpukur–Maheshtala block of the Diamond Harbour Police District after thieves broke into around 10 vacant houses and offices in a single night. The burglars allegedly decamped with gold jewellery, cash and other valuables, triggering sharp reactions from local residents over security lapses.

Acting swiftly, police arrested two real brothers in connection with the daring burglary. Considering the seriousness of the incident, a special investigation team was formed under the leadership of Kalitalla Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rupam Bhattacharya to track down those involved.

Investigators examined CCTV footage from the area and, acting on confidential inputs, conducted a raid in the Sarisha locality. During the operation, two brothers identified as Kachi Mistri and Chottu Mistri were arrested. Police sources said a third brother is also part of the gang and is currently absconding.

From the arrested accused, police recovered 11 gold and silver ornaments, including three stolen gold chains. A case had been registered at Kalitalla Police Station on February 11, following which a search operation was launched to trace the suspects.

The two accused were produced before the Alipore Court, which remanded them to two days of police custody. Officials believe sustained interrogation could yield vital information about other gang members and additional stolen property, while raids continue to nab the absconding brother and patrolling has been intensified in the area.
