A severe accident occurred on Bankim Bridge in Howrah when a stationary bus was struck by a speeding minibus. The mini-bus, traveling on the Ultadanga route, crashed into the rear of a private-public bus on the Howrah-Sealdah route.
The impact caused significant injuries to several passengers. The stationary bus was hit while waiting on the bridge, which has shocked many given its typically busy nature.
Eyewitnesses reported that the collision resulted in injuries to 8 to 10 passengers, with four sustaining serious injuries. All the injured are migrant workers from Burdwan who were en route to Chennai from Shalimar station.
They were taken to Howrah District Hospital, where they received first aid and were later discharged. The severity of the injuries highlights the dangerous nature of the crash.
The Golabari police station quickly arrived at the scene. Both buses, along with their drivers and conductors, have been arrested. Authorities are investigating the incident and have identified reckless driving as a primary factor. Despite numerous warnings about speeding, such incidents continue to occur, raising concerns about road safety.
