A major accident occurred at the Howrah Haat Business Tower on Tuesday when an iron pipe suddenly fell from the multi-storey complex, killing two people on the spot. The incident took place while routine business activities were underway at the haat, located behind the Howrah Municipal Corporation.
The deceased have been identified as trader Sheikh Irfan and labourer Khokan. Eyewitnesses said the heavy iron pipe broke loose and crashed down from above, triggering panic among traders, workers, and visitors present in the complex at the time.
Following the incident, Howrah Police reached the spot and initiated an investigation to ascertain how the pipe fell and whether there were lapses in safety measures. The tragedy has raised concerns over safety arrangements at the busy commercial complex.
