Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
Two young trainees were found dead at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) hostel in Kerala's Kollam on Thursday morning. The deceased have been identified as 17-year-old Sandra, an athletics trainee from Kozhikode, and 15-year-old Vyshnavi, a kabaddi player from Thiruvananthapuram. The two girls were found hanging from ceiling fans in their hostel room, casting a pall of gloom over the premier training facility.
The tragedy came to light around 5 AM when the duo failed to report for their mandatory morning training session. When repeated knocks and calls went unanswered, hostel staff sensed something was wrong and forced open the door, only to find the girls in a lifeless state. While Sandra was a Class 12 student, Vyshnavi was in Class 10. According to hostel records, Vyshnavi usually stayed in a different room but had reportedly decided to spend Wednesday night with Sandra.
Kollam East police reached the spot shortly after the discovery and have initiated a comprehensive probe. Preliminary investigations have confirmed that no suicide note was recovered from the room, making it difficult for officials to immediately establish a motive for the extreme step. Fellow trainees mentioned that the two girls were seen together late into the previous night and appeared normal, which has left the hostel community confused and devastated.
Post-mortem procedures are currently underway to determine the exact time and cause of death. Senior SAI officials have reached Kollam to oversee the situation and coordinate with the families of the deceased. Police are recording statements from other inmates, trainers, and staff members to check if the girls were facing any mental pressure or academic stress.
