Two govt employees suspended for taking bribe from truck driver; CM Suvendu says 'no one is above law'

Two government employees attached to the Transport Department have been placed under immediate suspension following allegations of extortion and administrative abuse at the Rampur checkpost in Paschim Bardhaman district. The disciplinary action was initiated after a commercial goods carrier was unlawfully intercepted while returning to a garage following servicing. According to details shared regarding the incident, the vehicle driver was harassed, pressured to pay a bribe, and subjected to an illegal demand of ₹22,000 under the pretext of a tax that had already been abolished by the state government.

The suspended officials have been identified as Motor Vehicle Inspectors Nazimul Haque and Anupam Banerjee. Following the driver's refusal to pay the demanded bribe, the officials had illegally seized the commercial truck. The administration moved swiftly upon receiving the formal complaint, issuing suspension orders under applicable administrative rules and initiating procedures to expedite the release of the wrongfully detained vehicle.

In addition to the departmental suspensions, formal complaints against the accused officers have been referred to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for a detailed criminal inquiry and necessary legal proceedings. Emphasizing an absolute zero-tolerance stance toward administrative corruption and harassment of commercial transporters, official directives have been issued across departments warning that strict legal and disciplinary measures will follow any instance of extortion or illegal gratification.
