A fatal accident on National Highway 12 in the Simhat area under Haringhata Police Station claimed two lives and left five others injured late at night. According to eyewitnesses, an ambulance traveling from Jharkhand to Kolkata collided head-on with a truck around midnight. The ambulance, carrying seven people, was reportedly coming from the wrong direction when the crash occurred. The impact severely damaged the vehicle, leaving all occupants injured.
Locals and emergency responders rushed the injured to Kalyani’s Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital, where doctors declared two women, identified as Nahara Bibi and Manthara Bibi, dead on arrival. The patient being transported and the ambulance driver remain in critical condition, while the other three injured are receiving treatment. The truck involved in the collision fled the scene immediately after the crash.
Police have launched an investigation and are analyzing CCTV footage to track down the truck. Authorities are also examining road conditions and traffic violations that may have contributed to the accident. National Highway 12 has witnessed multiple accidents in recent months, raising concerns over road safety measures and traffic rule enforcement in the area.
