Two killed, one injured as lorry rams into bus from behind at Jessore Road

A speeding lorry rammed into passengers at Michael Nagar bus stop on Jessore Road around 9 PM on Sunday, killing two and injuring one. The accident occurred when a Birati-Barasat-bound passenger bus stopped to pick up and drop off commuters. As one passenger was alighting and a woman was boarding, the lorry crashed into the bus from behind, throwing three people onto the road. Locals and police rushed them to Barasat Medical College Hospital, where two were declared dead on arrival. The lorry driver, also injured, is receiving treatment.

According to police sources, the lorry has been detained, and an investigation is underway. Authorities are examining CCTV footage to determine the exact cause, including possible overspeeding or driver negligence. The impact caused a brief traffic disruption on Jessore Road, which was later cleared. Eyewitnesses stated that the collision was sudden, leaving the victims with no time to react. The identities of the deceased have not been disclosed pending notification of their families.
