BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
A 27-year-old real estate businessman was shot dead in the early hours of Wednesday in West Bengal’s Howrah district, with the attack captured on CCTV cameras installed near the crime scene. The incident occurred around 4:10 a.m. near a tea stall on Second Bye Lane in the Pilkhana area, police said. The victim, identified as Shafique Khan, was rushed to the district hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Khan was shot at close range, allegedly sustaining bullet injuries to the head and chest before collapsing on the spot. CCTV footage from the area purportedly shows the assailants opening fire and fleeing thereafter. The visuals have surfaced as crucial evidence, though they have not been independently verified.
Police officials said initial findings point towards a possible long-standing personal rivalry as the motive behind the killing. However, family members of the deceased have alleged that Khan had been receiving threats and that the accused had demanded a large sum of money from him prior to the incident.
Residents of the locality also recalled a previous firing incident in the same area about two months ago, though no injuries were reported at that time. Investigators are examining all angles, reviewing footage, and gathering statements as they continue efforts to identify and apprehend those involved.
