RPF nabbed two persons with cash amounting to around Rs 45.53 crore at Bhagalpur railway station on Friday. They have been identified as 32-year-old Dilip Kumar Rawal, son of Jayanti Bhai Rawal of village Khorsam under Chanasma police station in Patan district and 22-year-old Jayesh Kumar, son of Lallubhai Rawal of village Chhathiyarda under Mahesana Taluka of Mahesana. Gujarat district. They were trying to board a train to Patna.
After completing the formalities, the RPF handed over the cash and the two persons to the officials of the Income Tax Department. RPF and Income Tax department sources did not rule out "hawala" transactions, though both denied it. Both were released on personal bonds late on Friday evening following an in-depth investigation by the RPF and Income Tax Department.
According to RPF sources, Dilip and Jayesh were carrying heavy bags and were trying to evade the baggage screening facility installed at the railway station. RPF personnel after preliminary investigation got suspicious and insisted on scanning the luggage. They were amazed to see a huge amount of cash, all in the denomination of Rs.500.
Quoting the arrested persons, RPF Inspector Randhir Kumar said that both Dilip and Jayesh said that the cash was given to them by one Suresh Patel on NH-80 to deliver it to one Naresh Patel, who is a tile construction supervisor manufacturing company in Patna. Those arrested said the money was legal.
