A violent clash broke out between two Trinamool Congress factions at the Unitech Gate No. 2 market in Newtown on Monday over a shop dispute. The confrontation escalated into a physical fight, with one faction allegedly attacking the husband of a panchayat member using sticks and iron rods.
The injured man, a resident of Baliguri village under Rajarhat Patharghata Gram Panchayat, was first taken to Jirangancha Hospital. As his condition worsened, doctors referred him to R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, where he is undergoing treatment in critical condition.
Technocity police reached the spot soon after the incident and brought the situation under control. Officials confirmed that an investigation has been initiated and all aspects of the case, including the circumstances that led to the assault, are being examined.
