Two Trinamool factions clash in Hooghly; several injured, police resort to lathi charge

On Monday, two factions of Trinamool Congress clashed over the control of Khanakul (1) Panchayat Samity in Hooghly district. In this incident, the head of the woman president of the Panchayat Samity was fractured, and many members of the Panchayat Samity were injured. To control the situation, the police had to lathi-charge and drive away hundreds of supporters from both sides from the spot.

According to local sources, after the formation of the board by Trinamool in Khanakul (1) Panchayat Samity, a dispute had started between the faction of the former Karmadhyaksha Naimul Haque alias Ranga and the faction of the Trinamool President of Khanakul (1) Block, Deepen Maiti.

Many Karmadhyakshas and members of the Panchayat Samity, followers of Deepen, had submitted their resignation to the Panchayat Samity President Shampa Maiti. Seeing the situation, the permanent committee of the Panchayat Samity was disbanded. On the other hand, Naimul Haque alias Ranga was desperate to establish his monopoly in the Panchayat Samity by retaining the permanent committee of the Panchayat Samity.

On Monday, a meeting was organized in the meeting hall of Khanakul (1) Panchayat Samity. There was a lot of tension in the meeting. Panchayat Samity president Sampa Maiti's head was allegedly broken. Meanwhile, hundreds of people from both groups gathered outside the Panchayat Samity. Heavy deployment of police and RAF was done in the Panchayat Samity office premises to control the situation.

After the attack by Ranga's group, a member Tapas Ghosh came out of the meeting venue. He was also beaten badly. His clothes were torn. He said that the Panchayat Samity president madam was attacked and her head was broken. I was also beaten and the main accused in this incident is Naimul Haque alias Ranga. He has been doing this for fifteen years.

Hooghly District Rural Police Additional Superintendent Krishnu Roy, Arambagh SDPO Suprabhat Chakraborty, and Arambagh Police Station IC Rakesh Singh were present at the spot. Heavy police force and RAF were deployed. Both sides were chased away from the area.
