A violent factional clash erupted within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Chandpur, Rajarhat, late Tuesday night, leading to road blockades and a police crackdown. Chandpur Panchayat deputy head Akramul Ali Molla alleged that he was attacked in Shikarpur by supporters of Panchayat head Jabbar Molla. “They came with weapons and assaulted us,” Akramul claimed. He stated that the attack was linked to the suspension of soil transport vehicles in the area. Following the assault, Akramul’s faction staged a road blockade at Shikarpur intersection, disrupting traffic.
The blockade was lifted after police intervention, but tensions escalated further when both TMC factions clashed inside the Rajarhat police station. Verbal altercations turned violent, forcing the police to use lathi-charge to disperse the groups. Law enforcement arrested two individuals, including Akramul’s brother, from both factions. Protesters also gathered outside the police station, demanding action. Additional police personnel were deployed to prevent further unrest.
Local sources reported that the conflict stemmed from political and administrative disputes within the panchayat. Residents expressed concern over growing factionalism, fearing further violence. Authorities confirmed that security has been tightened in Chandpur and surrounding areas, with increased patrolling to maintain order. The situation remains tense, and police are closely monitoring developments.
