Two youths killed in Jaynagar crash, grandmother dies of shock hours later

A tragic road accident in Jaynagar on New Year’s morning claimed the lives of two young men, while the grandmother of one of the victims later died after suffering a heart attack upon seeing her grandson’s body. The incident has left the entire locality in deep shock, turning a day of celebration into mourning.

According to police and local sources, the deceased have been identified as Subhash Mondal (35) and Vicky Mondal (22). The accident occurred early in the morning in the Bajra Malighati area under Jaynagar police station, when the two had stopped their motorcycle by the roadside while returning home from a function. A speeding vegetable-laden pickup van lost control and rammed into them with force, leaving both critically injured.

Local residents rushed to the spot and took the victims to Padmerhat Rural Hospital in Jaynagar Block 1, where doctors declared them dead on arrival. The impact of the collision was severe, and both men sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene immediately after the accident, abandoning the vehicle, which was later seized by the police.

The tragedy deepened when Vicky Mondal’s grandmother, Molina Mondal (60), collapsed after seeing her grandson’s body at the hospital. Unable to withstand the shock, she suffered a heart attack and died soon after. Police have launched a search operation to trace the absconding driver, and the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination.
