Tyre burst on Bally bridge, 4 dead after 40ft plunge
At around 3:30 AM today, a horrific accident occurred at the Bally Nibedita Bridge tollway, near Lalbari, claiming the lives of four individuals. According to police sources, a small four-wheeled vehicle, carrying a load of cloth bundles, was heading from Habra to Ankurlhati Haat in Howrah to sell goods. Suddenly, one of the vehicle's tires burst, causing it to overturn.
At the time of the accident, six workers were sitting on the roof of the vehicle. The overturned vehicle plunged over the bridge railing, falling nearly 40 feet onto the road below. Tragically, four of the workers died on the spot. Two others were severely injured. All victims were rushed to Uttarpara Hospital, where four were declared dead, and the two injured were transferred to another hospital in critical condition.
The Bally police have initiated an investigation into the incident. The identities of the victims are yet to be confirmed.
