Facing backlash from Indian citizens on social media for depicting the Hindu goddess Kali in a distorted manner, Ukraine's Defense Ministry deleted the controversial tweet.
First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Emine Dzheppar informed that the image of the goddess Kali was removed, he said that the people of Ukraine respect Indian culture. On April 30, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense posted a photo on its official Twitter account that appeared to be the goddess Kali. The controversial post was tagged as "Artwork".
According to reports, the image looked similar to Sam Shaw's 1954 "flying skirt" of Marilyn Monroe. A controversial tweet from the Ukrainian ministry led to outrage among Twitteratis, especially Indians, with many calling the country "Hinduphobic" and urging CEO Elon Musk and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to take strict action.
Sudhanshu Singh, a Twitter user, hit out at the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense for mocking Maa Kali. He called it a gross display of insensitivity and ignorance and asked for an apology.
Another Twitterati Saujay Basu claimed that this is one of the reasons why Ukraine is not getting any support from India.
It is worth noting here that mocking of Hindu Gods is not new and there have been cases before.
Last year, the Hindu Janajagruthi Samithi filed a lawsuit against Amazon India for selling an obscene image of Radha-Krishna on the occasion of Janamashtmi. In 2019, a complaint was filed against Amazon India for being involved in the sale of Shri Ganesha printed shorts and briefs.
