Entally police station in Kolkata arrested Imtiaz Hussain, the registrar of the State Council of Unani Medicine, on Monday for allegedly distributing fake doctors' certificates in exchange for money. This arrest came after a resident from the Entally area, who had recently acquired a doctor's certificate for Rs 10,000, discovered it was counterfeit and reported the incident to the police.
Upon receiving the complaint, police began an investigation and traced Imtiaz Hussain to his residence, where he was taken into custody on Monday morning. During preliminary questioning, police learned that Hussain had been issuing fake medical certificates for amounts ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000.
Police sources suggest that this may not be Hussain's first involvement in fraudulent activities. In a previous case, he was arrested by the Bidhannagar Commissionerate Police based on similar complaints. Currently, law enforcement officials are probing further to determine how many fake certificates have been issued and whether more individuals are involved in the racket.
Authorities suspect that Hussain’s position within the State Council of Unani Medicine facilitated access to resources and provided an aura of legitimacy, which he exploited to operate the alleged scheme. They are also verifying whether any medical institutions or practitioners unknowingly accepted the fraudulent certifications.
