Disruption in metro services between Dumdum and Dakshineswar; normal services resume after 2 hours
A major accident occurred today as Uttarakhand's 'Signature Bridge', currently under construction in Rudraprayag, collapsed. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The bridge, being built by RCC Developers at a cost of ₹76 crore, was the first of its kind in the hill state and was located in Narkota on the Badrinath Highway.
The incident happened at 4.15 pm, with only the tower collapsing while the foundation remained intact. A technical committee will investigate the cause of the collapse. Locals have criticized the construction work, alleging negligence and poor oversight by the highway authority and the government. One local resident questioned, "Why can't they take this project off the present company and give it to another?" Another official noted that although 40 workers usually work at that time, no one was on the bridge today.
