The body of an unidentified man was found lying on a footpath near Jalvayu Vihar in Salt Lake City on Thursday morning, prompting a police investigation. Around 7 am, morning walkers noticed the man lying motionless on the pavement and alerted the South Bidhannagar Police Station.
Police reached the spot and shifted the man to Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Hospital, where he was declared dead. The body was later sent to RG Kar Hospital for postmortem examination. Officials said the exact cause of death will be determined after the initial postmortem report is received.
According to police sources, the deceased was reportedly mentally ill and had been seen wandering in the area for several days. An all-concern message has been circulated to ascertain his identity, and further investigation is underway.
