Union health minister chairs Covid review meet as cases cross 6,000-mark

Union health minister chairs Covid review meet as cases cross 6,000-mark

Amid the rise in Covid-19 cases in the country, Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya today chaired a review meeting with Health Ministers of all states and Union Territories.

“The Center regularly issues guidance to states and the United States regarding Covid19. PM Modi has conducted a review with all states on this issue. Today the Minister of Health, Dr. Mandaviya will hold a review meeting with state and UT health ministers,” MoS Health quoted Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar.

India reported 6,050 new cases of Covid-19 on Friday, a 13 percent increase from yesterday's tally of 5,335, data shared by the health ministry said. The total number of active cases is 28,303, while 14 deaths from the virus have been reported in the same period.

A total of 5,30,943 people lost their lives due to Covid-19. The number of people discharged is 4,41,85,858. Meanwhile, 2,334 doses of the vaccine have been administered in the last 24 hours. Since the start of the nationwide vaccination campaign on January 16, 2021, a total of 2,20,66,20,700 vaccinations have been carried out.

Major contributors to India's rising Covid graph are states like Kerala, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, which have seen a spike in infections in recent days.

Delhi recorded 606 new cases of Covid-19, the highest since last August. The capital registered 620 virus-related cases on August 26 last year. Meanwhile, the number of Covids in Kerala rose to 1,912. Six new cases of coronavirus were reported from Maharashtra, two from Karnataka, one each from Kerala and Punjab.
