The Uttar Pradesh government has allotted 2.32 hectares of land in Chakauli village, Pargana Bijnor, Sarojini Nagar tehsil of Lucknow district for the permanent campus of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad. The land has been leased for 99 years at a rate of Re 1 per year, as stated in an official release issued on Tuesday.
The permanent Lucknow campus will offer academic programmes such as BA (Honours) English, MA English, MA Linguistics, MA English Literature, Post Graduate Diploma in the Teaching of English (PGDTE), and PhD. Additionally, part-time foreign language courses will be introduced in French, German, Russian, and Spanish.
Currently, EFLU’s Lucknow centre operates from a temporary facility on Kanpur Road. The land allotment will enable the construction of a dedicated campus with facilities for teaching, research, and student activities. The university aims to cater to students from across Uttar Pradesh and other states.
At the land transfer event, Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay said the state government was committed to ensuring linguistic education of global standards. He added that the new campus would result in significant growth in education quality and facilities.
EFLU Vice Chancellor Prof N Nagaraju called the land transfer a “historic step” for the university’s development, stating that the Lucknow campus would be developed into a major centre for linguistic education and research. Established in 1958 as the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages, the university became EFLU in 2007 and has campuses in Hyderabad, Shillong, and Lucknow, with the latter operational since 1979.
