In a shocking crime in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, a man allegedly murdered his roommate by spiking his drink with a lethal combination of liquors after an argument over cooking. The accused, identified as 45-year-old Sudhir Sharma, was arrested on March 29 near Ahilyabai Gate in the Khoda area.
The incident came to light on March 21 when neighbors reported a foul smell coming from the rented accommodation in Madhu Vihar. Upon breaking open the door, the police discovered the decomposed body of 32-year-old Netram Sharma, a resident of Farrukhabad. The autopsy suggested that the victim had been dead for several days.
Investigations led the police to CCTV footage, which showed Sudhir Sharma locking the house from the outside at around 7 a.m. on March 17 and never returning. This triggered suspicion, and authorities launched a manhunt, ultimately leading to his arrest nearly two weeks later.
During interrogation, Sudhir confessed to the crime, revealing that he and Netram often argued over cooking arrangements. While Netram preferred ordering food from outside, Sudhir insisted on cooking at home, which he claimed made the room unbearably hot. The tension escalated on March 15 when Netram allegedly abused him during a heated argument.
Sudhir, having heard that mixing country-made liquor with foreign liquor could be fatal, decided to use this method to eliminate his roommate. On March 16, he prepared the lethal drink and made Netram consume it. Once the victim became unconscious, Sudhir covered him with a blanket and fled, locking the house behind him.
The police have preserved the victim’s viscera for forensic examination to determine if any additional toxic substances were used. A case has been registered against Sudhir Sharma under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigations are underway.
