Upper primary job aspirants launch ‘Nabanna Abhiyan’ over “11 years of deprivation”

Hundreds of upper primary job aspirants took to the streets of Kolkata, launching a symbolic ‘Nabanna Abhiyan’ to protest alleged deprivation and prolonged unemployment. The protestors claimed they have been waiting for appointments for over 11 years and accused the administration of ignoring their plight, calling the situation a fight for survival.

In a dramatic display of dissent, several candidates crawled on their knees on the road to draw attention to their suffering. Protesters said the act was meant to convey their pain to the highest levels of the administration and to “wake up a sleeping government” that, according to them, has failed to address their demands for years.

The march began around noon from Sealdah station and proceeded via S.N. Banerjee Road to the Y-Channel at Dharmatala. Traffic came to a complete halt for a brief period at the busy Dorina Crossing when some protestors lay and crawled on the road. Police intervened promptly, removed the demonstrators from the carriageway, and restored vehicular movement.
