Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of infamous gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was arrested in Sacramento, California, last Thursday by US authorities. However, his arrest is not related to the crimes he is wanted for in India. Bishnoi, a prominent figure in Lawrence Bishnoi’s global criminal syndicate, was taken into custody for entering the United States with illegal documents, not for his involvement in high-profile criminal activities like the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in 2022 or the recent killing of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique.
The Bishnoi brothers, both heavily involved in organized crime, are under investigation by Indian authorities for their alleged role in multiple criminal operations. Lawrence Bishnoi, currently imprisoned in Ahmedabad, has been at the center of several murder investigations and is accused of running a vast criminal empire spanning several countries. Anmol, however, has stayed largely under the radar despite being wanted for his involvement in these criminal activities.
Anmol’s arrest in the United States, although significant, is not linked to the major criminal charges leveled against him by India. Intelligence sources have indicated that, for now, there is no immediate possibility of Anmol Bishnoi being extradited to India. This comes despite an official extradition request filed by the Indian government earlier this month.
The US authorities have notified their Indian counterparts about Anmol’s detention and the reasons behind his arrest. The US government’s decision to detain Bishnoi, although not connected to the charges in India, highlights the ongoing collaboration between the two nations on issues of organized crime and illegal immigration.
The Bishnoi family’s criminal activities have drawn significant attention in India, especially following the murder of Sidhu Moosewala. The Indian government continues to pursue the extradition of key figures in Lawrence Bishnoi’s syndicate to stand trial for various crimes committed in India. However, the arrest of Anmol in the US could complicate matters, as it raises questions about jurisdiction and legal processes for extradition.
While this arrest does not immediately impact the ongoing investigations in India, it serves as another chapter in the complex saga of the Bishnoi crime syndicate, which continues to make headlines both in India and abroad.
