Uttam Manch to be renovated, Uttam Kumar Film Centre to be built, announces CM Suvendu

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday paid tribute to legendary actor Uttam Kumar on his 47th death anniversary at Keoratala crematorium, where he also unveiled the actor's bust in the presence of family members and actor Rituparna Sengupta. On the occasion, the Chief Minister announced a series of initiatives to mark Uttam Kumar's birth centenary, including the renovation and modernisation of Uttam Manch, the establishment of an Uttam Kumar Film Centre, and a four-day state-level celebration from September 3 to September 6.

Addressing the gathering, Suvendu Adhikari said Uttam Kumar's contribution to Bengali cinema would remain an enduring part of its history and that the government was committed to preserving and promoting his legacy for future generations. He said preparations for the birth centenary celebrations would begin immediately, with a preparatory meeting to be held at either Nandan or Rabindra Sadan under his chairmanship. He also announced that a committee would be formed to oversee the celebrations, subject to the consent of Uttam Kumar's family.

The Chief Minister further said the proposed Uttam Kumar Film Centre would be developed as a centre for the preservation, research and promotion of Bengali cinema and cultural heritage. After paying floral tributes and unveiling the bust at Keoratala, Suvendu Adhikari visited Uttam Kumar's residence in Bhawanipur, where he met the actor's family members and paid tribute to his memory.
