Uttarkashi tunnel collapse: trapped workers assure well-being, evacuation operation underway

Following the collapse of an under-construction tunnel on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri National Highway in Uttarkashi, 40 trapped laborers conveyed to the commandant of Uttarakhand's State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Manikant Mishra, that they are "doing well." Mishra, leading the rescue operation, assured that the workers would be rescued soon.

Food items and medicines have been supplied to the trapped workers through pipes, and a large-diameter steel pipe is being prepared for the evacuation operation.Evacuators have initiated drilling with heavy machinery to fit the steel pipe inside the Silkyara Tunnel for the rescue mission.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has closely monitored the situation, assuring that necessary supplies, including food, water, and oxygen, are regularly provided to the trapped workers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also closely monitoring the situation, and the chief minister emphasized the ongoing review of all under-construction tunnels in the region to prevent such incidents in the future.
