A heated roadside altercation in Howrah’s Banaras Road turned fatal on Thursday morning when a van driver collapsed and died after being slapped by a cyclist. The incident took place in front of Kona High School.
According to eyewitnesses, the van had reportedly hit the cyclist, sparking an argument between the two. In a fit of rage, the cyclist allegedly slapped the van driver hard. Moments later, the driver fell to the ground. He was rushed to Jagdishpur Rural Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Local residents, angered by the incident, caught hold of the cyclist and assaulted him before the arrival of Dasnagar police. The accused was taken into custody, and an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of death and sequence of events.
The unexpected death has shocked the locality, raising questions over road rage and the lack of restraint in minor disputes.
